Contraindication Notes:

This product utilizes a multi-mechanistic pathway to defend the upper gastrointestinal tract. It works through three distinct pharmacological actions:

  • Mechanical Barrier Formation (Raft-Forming Effect): Upon contact with gastric hydrochloric acid, Sodium Alginate precipitates to form a low-density, thick, neutral-pH gel raft. This physical layer floats on top of the stomach contents. It physically prevents acid reflux into the esophagus and acts as a mechanical shield over irritated or ulcerated mucosal surfaces.

  • Chemical Neutralization: Calcium Carbonate acts as a local, non-systemic antacid. It directly reacts with existing gastric hydrochloric acid (HCl) to form calcium chloride, water, and carbon dioxide. This chemical reaction rapidly raises the gastric pH, reducing the corrosive power of stomach juices without triggering systemic alkalosis.

  • Cytoprotection & Tissue Repair: Glucosamine HCl acts as a metabolic precursor for glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are fundamental structural components of the protective gastric mucus layer. Concurrently, MSM reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, while Chamomile and Licorice extracts exert mild antispasmodic effects on gastrointestinal smooth muscle, reducing nausea and promoting local mucosal cellular healing.

Because this product contains Sodium Alginate (which forms a thick physical gel) and Calcium Carbonate (an antacid that alters stomach pH), it significantly impacts how other oral medications are absorbed.

1. Altered Gastric pH Interactions

Many oral drugs require a highly acidic stomach environment to dissolve and enter the bloodstream. The antacid component raises stomach pH, reducing the efficacy of:

  • Azole Antifungals: Ketoconazole, Itraconazole.

  • Certain Antibiotics: Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin (Fluoroquinolones), and Doxycycline.

  • Iron Supplements: Ferrous sulfate.

2. Physical Chelation & Adsorption Interactions

The alginate gel raft can physically trap or bind to other drugs given at the same time, preventing them from being absorbed by the intestines:

  • Tetracyclines & Fluoroquinolones: Calcium ions bind directly to these antibiotics, rendering them inactive.

  • Digoxin & Heart Medications: Absorption is significantly delayed or reduced.

Critical Administration Rule: Administer this product at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after giving any other oral medications to your pet.
