PABA (Para amino benzoic acid) is essential for bacterial growth & multiplication (synthesized by bacteria & supplied from environment). By different enzymatic process PABA is converted into Dihydrofolic acid at first & then Tetrahydrofolic acid. Tetrahydrofolic acid acts as a co-factor for single carbon metabolism & Nucleic acid synthesis. But due to structural similarity of PABA with Sulfonamides Dihydropteridin (essential for dihydrofolic acid synthesis) mistakenly combined with Sulfonamides instead of PABA. As a result Dihydrofolic acid synthesis is prevented. As a result bacterial DNA synthesis is interrupted. Sulfonamides are bacteriostatic in action.

Streptomycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30s ribosomal subunit.

Provide enough water during treatment.

Careful about long term treatment.

Stop medication, if any problem occurs during treatment.
