Trichlorfon is primarily an indirect inhibitor of AChE, that is, it is converted in the body to the active chemical inhibitor dichlorvos. In fact, trichlorfon is considered to be a slow release cholinesterase inhibitor, transformed nonenzymatically to dichlorvos.
